We were delighted to welcome trustees and other charity people from a wide variety of charities to Woodlands Christian Centre for this event, including churches, patient and carers’ support, disability equality, community outreach, educational engagement and poverty relief organisations.
As well as networking and enjoying the light refreshments, we spent some time reviewing key messages and action points for charity trustees in the light of the recent changes to the core Charity Commission trustee guidance ‘The Essential Trustee’, including:
- Trusteeship is important and makes a vital contribution to our society
- The responsibilities need to be taken seriously and the legal duties discharged properly
- Charity law and this more robust guidance apply to all trustees and all charities (registered or not)
- Charities should support the development of all their trustees (as well as providing induction for new trustees)
